A version of the MLX90614 with accuracy suited for medical applications is available. The accuracy in the range Ta 16°C…40°C and To 22°C…40°C is shown in diagram below. The accuracy for the rest of the temperature ranges is the same as in previous diagram. Medical accuracy specification is only available for the MLX90614Dxx versions.

• Field of View (FOV): Angle at which sensor's sensitivity drops to 50% of the maximum. It is commonly used in the industry because it gives a first quick estimation of the viewing area, but in some circumstances it can be inaccurate because it takes into ccount only one point of the sensitivity curve.
  
  Defined by the sensor's optical design and lens. Wide FOV = large area, narrow FOV = precise spot.
• Distance-to-Spot Ratio (DS ratio): Indicates how large the viewing area is at a given distance. (e.g., 2:1 = 1cm spot at 2cm distance). Takes into account full sensitivity curve.
• FOV vs Accuracy: FOV-related temperature deviation is separate from overall accuracy. It reflects how object placement within the FOV can affect readings.
